Okay, so we are obviously not advising everyone to forgo the use of ductwork in their homes in order to maintain comfortable temperatures by distributing heated and cooled air throughout the living space. In some/many cases, however, homeowners are going to run into some trouble as far as the ductwork goes. This can happen for different reasons and at different stages. When it does, clients often turn to us for ductless mini split services in Cherry Hill, NJ.
The ductless mini split, as you’ll see below, is quite the unique HVAC system (notice that we didn’t say “heating” or “cooling” there?). It may not be right for every home or homeowner, but no system truly is—that is why there are so many different types available. Consider the following information regarding the design, operation, and benefits of ductless mini splits, and let us know if you have any questions or if you are ready to start reaping those benefits.
How It Works
When you think of “ductless” heating or cooling, you may just think of space heaters and window unit air conditioners. This is not what we mean by a ductless mini split system. This is a single system that offers you both whole-house cooling and whole-house heating, with great efficiency and versatility—and all without the use of ductwork.
The system uses multiple blower units that are installed throughout the living space. They are controlled independently of one another, and connect to a single outdoor unit via power, refrigerant, and drainage lines, all packed in a simple conduit.
Heat pump technology, including the “reversing valve,” is used in order to reverse the air conditioning process. In the summer, the system evaporates refrigerant in the indoor coils in order to remove heat from the air. In the winter, the same process is used in reverse to absorb ambient heat from the air outside. That heated refrigerant is compressed and its thermal energy heats the interior living space.
System Benefits
The ductless mini split does not experience duct leaks. It does not require ductwork installation. It can transfer heat in both directions. That all amounts to benefits that include:
- Improved Comfort via Zone Control
- Improved Efficiency
- Improved Convenience
